Julia Baker, Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), National Certified Counselor (NCC)

My counseling philosophy is rooted in the belief that the client is the expert in their own life and that each person has an innate ability to grow and change. Therapy is a process that can help you identify unresolved issues that impact your access to that ability. Before beginning my time as a counselor I worked with individuals and families as a teacher, and by serving on the Juvenile Justice Advisory Board and the Los Alamos New Mexico Board of Education. Through that work, I saw the impact that empathy and mental health professionals can make in the lives of individuals, families and communities.
Using empathic listening and reflection, I strive to foster a safe environment for the client to share their story and explore their perceptions and feelings. I am EMDR trained and enjoy integrating that with a person-centered perspective while drawing from cognitive-behavioral therapy, as well as motivational interviewing and mindfulness techniques.
We can work together to create a plan forward, adapting each approach to your unique and individual needs. None of us can do it alone. There is power in connection and seeking help. No matter your challenges, goals, or where you are on your current journey to wellness; there is always potential for growth, healthier relationships, joy, hope and healing.
